Building components for Apple.com, the Apple Store App, and Apple Shopping Experiences.

I joined Apple in 2022 on the design systems team at Marcom as a Senior Designer. My primary responsibilities included creating components, working with engineering to build and refine components as determined by our specs, collaborating with product designers to review existing design patterns to further evolve Apple’s Design System, and advocating for design system usage across all channels.

Although I’m unable to show all of the work I’ve contributed to, the following case study represents some of my latest core contributions.

Timeline and Contribution

Exploration & Studies

Studying color, typography, and best practices was an important part of my role on the design system team. I helped push design and user experience forward, creating new ideas and cohesion across Apple experiences.

Component Specs

Detailed spec pages were created to provide both design guidance (during design phases) and developer insight (during developer handoff). In this example, Apple’s form elements were updated due to an accessibility issue. Detailed specs were created along with the latest guidance. Anatomy, Layout, Breakpoints, States, and Motion are just some of the spec details included. As components evolve, or as specific requirements are uncovered, specs and documentation are updated.

Iconography

The design systems team is responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining a library of 900+ icons. All icons come in six sizes along with an outline and fill version. Icons are built out during two-week sprints and libraries are updated every month. As new products or features are launched, new icons are created in partnership with Apple’s Interface team.

Page Templates

Templates are created and maintained by the design systems team to aid product designers during launch moments. These templates are linked to Apple’s design system and are continually updated and refined as needed. Guidance and recommendations are also provided to aid product designers and development teams.
